Key Persons

All staff are aware of the varying emotional needs of children who first attend Willand Pre-School and for this reason careful monitoring and observation takes place for the initial six weeks.  We encourage the children to play games within small groups to help them to learn the names of their peers and we take note of their interests.  We allocate a key person to your child, prior to them starting the setting. A key person system means that a child will have a designated member of staff who will monitor their progress and set them appropriate goals.  This helps to ensure any problems the child may be experiencing will be quickly identified.  Assessment records will then be kept and these will be made available to parents upon request.

You may ask to see your childs key person at any time, however you will be invited to parents evening, where you can review their work, discuss their progress and contribute to their future planning.

Safety

The school drive is in constant use and we ask that you keep the external gate closed at all times.  We have an outside doorbell and the inner door has a sensor and a safety gate.  The side gate and back gate are kept locked and the outdoor area is surrounded by a secure fence.  CCTV is in operation 24 hours a day.

PLEASE NOTE
When you arrive to collect your child at the end of any session, we are not able to answer the front door and allow you access into the lobby until the children in the upstairs room have safely returned into the downstairs room.

Password

For your convenience, we ask you to issue us with a "Password" for your child.  If you need anyone to collect your child at short notice, you will be able to give them the required password and we will then be able to release your child into their care.

Medical Matters

We MUST be informed immediately if your child has been diagnosed with an infectious disease.  If they have had sickness and diarrhoea, we must insist that they are kept at home for 48 hours.  For more information on different infectious diseases and common illnesses, incubation periods etc, please see "The Spotty Book", which can be found at

http://www.devon.gov.uk/j4s-spottybook.pdf.

We are able to administer medication, providing you have signed our medications document.  We are NOT able to administer anything containing ASPRIN, unless it is prescribed by a doctor.
